The Big Island Film Office, as part of the County of Hawaii Department of Research and Development, was established to promote and market the Big Island as a film destination to filmmakers worldwide and to provide a resourceful environment for productions while assuring regard for the people and environment of the Big Island.

The Big Island Film Office acts as liaison between government agencies, production companies, and the Big Island community while providing assistance to productions free of charge. The Film Office will make available a directory of qualified film industry personnel and support services and assist with permitting.

General and location information is easily accessible to all filmmakers on the Big Island Film Office website at www.filmbigisland.com. The office houses a comprehensive photo library where photo files are provided upon request.

Approximately 150 productions, both big and small, come to experience the Big Island every year. Credits include features, television shows, documentaries, commercials and print productions from over 15 countries. A sampling of credits include features: The Day After Tomorrow (20th Century Fox), Aloha My Love (Hawaii Filmwerks), Kapu (Hawaii Filmwerks), Planet of the Apes (20th Century Fox); Television shows and video: The Mole, The Last Resort, The Bachelor, BBC National Lottery Jet Set, TV Asahi Nagano Special, Trippin’ Out with May Lee, History of Hawaii, World’s Biggest Mountains, Animal Planet Hawaii Special; and print and commercials: Who are the Hawaiians, Liz Claiborne, Lexus, Bon Marché, Nike, Sony, AT&T, VIVI, W Magazine, BMW, L.L.Bean.

The Film Office welcomes all productions to request a free pictorial guide book and information packet of the Big Island. Contact us by phone, fax or e-mail so we can assist you in having a successful filming experience…and we’ll do it with aloha.
